Creating Your Logo

Most all businesses have a logo. A logo is a unique symbol or design that identifies a company. It's also called a Trademark or a Brand. A Logo will identify you with whatever product you sell. Establishing a recognizable brand is one the first and most important steps that a business owner takes.

Image Based Design

Graphic Designers create images to represent the ideas their clients want to communicate. Images are tools of communication, conveying not only information but also moods and emotions. People respond to images instinctively based on their personalities, associations, and previous experience.

Here the image based design is a salmon with a blue splash type circle.

Most people would associate this image with an ocean fish.

In the case of image-based design, the image must carry the

entire message; there are few if any words to help.

Type Based Design

In some cases, the image isn't what is important, it's the name. It's up to the designer to find the right font to set the mood of the business or individual. In this case two different fonts are chosen. One to convey the casual relaxed atmosphere of the beach and another, this one in red, to add a little sophistication.

Image and Type

Designers often combine images and

typography to communicate a client’s message to an audience. Here the image of the fish is combined with the type design to create an interesting design. In this example, a color that could represent sand or distressed wood is added as a backdrop to the text on the left to create an inviting cover page of a menu.

The same color scheme can be used to create a slightly different design that might be more suitable for a smaller scale.
